They create a friendly\, professional\, and welcoming environment while helping ensure taxpayers are prepared for their appointments.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nWelcome taxpayers and visitors to the site.\nScreen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need.\nVerify taxpayers have the required documents\, including:\nGovernment-issued photo identification\nSocial Security cards or ITIN documentation\nForms W-2\, 1099\, and other tax documents\nDistribute and assist taxpayers with completing IRS Form 13614-C (Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet).\nAnswer basic questions about the VITA program and available services.\nDirect taxpayers through the site workflow.\nRequirements & Training\nNo previous tax preparation experience is required.\nMust complete IRS certification in:\nStandards of Conduct\nIntake/Interview & Quality Review\nStrong customer service\, communication\, organizational\, and basic computer skills are preferred.\nVolunteers are encouraged to commit to a minimum of approximately 40 hours during the tax season.\nThe official online training platform for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs is available at https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/.
