DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Dr. Piper Center for Social Services\n\nSenior Companion volunteers are asked to provide 10-20 hours of volunteer service per week. Volunteers who meet income and eligibility requirements receive a modest\, tax-free stipend\, transportation allowance which does not affect income and is not taxable.Our Senior Companion Program provides stipend volunteer opportunities for low-income seniors 55+ to serve frail elderly individuals\, especially those who are homebound and living alone\, as well as providing respite care to relieve live-in caretakers for short periods of time. Volunteers assist with providing transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping\, and offering a connection to the outside world which is often essential in keeping frail elderly from premature institutionalization.
