DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Lake Michigan Bird Observatory\n\nJoin us a volunteer to assist our staff and interns in gathering biodiversity data for our Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Program (NHIP). The Observatory has over 100 bird boxes in public spaces throughout Port Washington\, Wisconsin that we are monitoring nesting activity\, additionally we are surveying the vegetation surrounding our bird boxes to determine if clutch sizes of breeding birds have better survival in areas with higher densities of native vegetation.Volunteers will learn native and nonnative plant species\, and how to use standard forestry tools while surveying a 5-meter site surrounding one of our breeding bird boxes.This opportunity allows you to work side by side an Observatory staff member. If you are a plant nerd or aspiring plant nerd this opportunity will be your jam. It’s a great opportunity to learn plant identification\, especially woody plants. In addition\, it’s a great hands-on experience to use standard forestry tools while hanging out with cool people. We have several monitoring locations throughout Port Washington. We will send you an email with the location to meet us within 24-48 hours of your volunteer time.
