SUMMARY:Advocate for survivors of sexual assault in hospital settings & on our hotline!
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Pathways to Healing\n\nOur hotline/hospital advocates are our agency's front-line responders\, working directly with survivors immediately after a a sexual assault by accompanying them to the emergency room. During the hospital accompaniment\, volunteer advocates play many different roles such as providing information about medical and law enforcement processes\, providing emotional support to the survivor and their friends/family members\, and providing crisis intervention to help reduce the trauma a survivor experiences from an attempted or completed sexual assault.Volunteer advocates also answer our 24-hour crisis line after hours.Requirements: Volunteer advocates must be at least 18 years old\, have reliable transportation\, and be able to pass a criminal background check. Volunteers should be reliable\, compassionate\, open-minded\, good listeners\, and have an interest in working with survivors of sexual violence.Training: After a volunteer applicant completes the application process and is approved to volunteer\, they are required to complete a total of 25 hours of training\, which is provided by PTH.Commitment: Hotline/Hospital Advocates are required to be on-call for at least two shifts a month. Each day has a day and a night shift\, and the length of each shift varies by the day of the week. Therefore\, volunteer advocates provide between 18-30 hours of service each month.
