Food Recovery Volunteers- MONDAY(Heart of Compassion)

Help load shopping carts and vehicles with groceries during our public food distributions every Monday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Why: Heart of Compassion is 98% volunteer led; therefore, volunteer action is extremely important within this organization. It is also a major food recovery center, saving hundreds of thousands of pounds of food from landfills every year. The food is repurposed and used to feed the hungry.
Who: Heart of Compassion is dedicated to being a lighthouse of hope and help for Montebello and our local communities. We rely on our valuable volunteers to help us achieve our mission of Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope.
What to Expect:
Volunteers are responsible for safely handling food products, such as fruits and vegetables, as they bag and prepare it for our public distributions.
Volunteers are responsible for following their team leader's directions and having a good attitude.
Volunteers must follow safety directions.
Volunteers may be responsible for assembling cardboard boxes.
Volunteers are responsible for ensuring organic waste and plastic waste are discarded in their proper waste receptacles.
Volunteers must also be flexible if asked to work in a different area
What's Required:
Volunteers must be at least 13 yrs old to work in our warehouse (with signed waiver from guardian).
Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes for working in the warehouse and modest clothing (gloves are provided if needed)
allow staff to check their temperature upon arrival,
Check in and out with the office every day they volunteer.
Willing to stand for long periods of time and/or lift heavy objects.
Communicate with the office know if they cannot attend their scheduled shift.
