About this opportunity

We are seeking museum docents on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to showcase our historic houses and exhibitions in Middletown. Docents will monitor the flow of patrons through the self-guided spaces. Whether you are social or shy, we have the perfect fit for you! The Monmouth County Historical Association owns and operates two neighboring historic houses in Middletown: Marlpit Hall and the Taylor-Butler House. Marlpit Hall houses MCHA's award-winning exhibit Beneath the Floorboards: Whispers of the Enslaved at Marlpit Hall which examines the lives of the enslaved individuals who resided at the property and what the institution of slavery looked like in the county. The spacious Taylor-Butler house currently hosts three gallery exhibits, including Edward Taylor: Through the Eyes of a 19th-century Photographer which displays photographs of the property and the surrounding Middletown Village.Docent shifts are available Friday-Sunday and are from 1:00-4:00 PM. You will be able to select when and where you would like to volunteer. We hope you consider joining our fantastic team of MCHA volunteers, where you can be a part of history!
