VITA Interpreter

Position Summary
Interpreters help ensure taxpayers with limited English proficiency receive quality tax preparation services by providing language interpretation between taxpayers and volunteers.
Primary Responsibilities
Interpret conversations between taxpayers and VITA volunteers.
Assist with communication throughout the tax preparation process.
Help create a comfortable and welcoming experience for non-English-speaking taxpayers.
Maintain confidentiality of taxpayer information.
Requirements & Training
Must complete IRS certification in:
Standards of Conduct
Fluency in English and one or more additional languages.
Basic tax knowledge is helpful but not required.
Professionalism and confidentiality are essential.
The official online training platform for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program is available at https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/. This self-paced e-learning portal provides all required tax law instruction, certification tests, and reference materials needed to become an IRS-certified volunteer. Not all trainings will be required for this position.
Languages Needed: Spanish, Creole, ASL

Minimum age: 18.
