Do you love being outdoors? Enjoy working with your hands? Come join our Field Crew and help care for the grounds of our horse ranch!Nestled in the idyllic rolling hills of West Marin, our team of highly trained staff, volunteers, and sweet therapy horses lead folks with disabilites of all ages on trail rides and through arena exercises as they work to build strength, confidence, and emotional connection. Tuesday through Saturday, our riders experience the joy of the human-animal connection in a safe and joyous environment that celebrates them.Our Field Crew is almost entirely volunteer run, so our professional volunteer team is the key to our success! On the Field Crew, you'll get to help with a variety of tasks including pasture clean up, stall clean up, trail maintenance, watering and feeding horses, water trough maintenance, garden maintenance, and more! We'll adjust your tasks to your level of comfort and meet you where you are. If you are especially handy, you'll have commensurate tasks to tackle. If you're brand new and want to learn, we'd love to teach you.Consistency, kindness, and physical hardiness are musts. If you love to garden, enjoy working a few hours at a time in your yard, and you like the idea of being around therapy horses, you'll be well prepared to start your volunteer journey. You may be subject to some heat and cold depending on the time of the year, but generally our weather is quite mild. No facilities/gardening experience is required. What We Do:We believe that providing challenging experiences in a supportive environment will make a lasting, positive change in the attitudes and abilities of children and adults with disabilities, and in the people who care for them. Through the beneficial activity of therapeutic horseback riding, our participants learn new skills and expand their self-perception, enjoying a sense of freedom from their disabilities. We believe the families benefit from the relaxed atmosphere of the ranch and a valuable chance to network with other families and caregivers. We are committed to providing our program at low or no cost to our participants, so that the therapeutic benefits available through connections with people, animals, and nature are never denied a single individual in need. We are a member center of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH).Who We Are:Using gentle horses and a wonderful group of volunteers, Halleck Creek Ranch offers a stimulating and valuable weekly therapy program to children and adults with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities. Riders enjoy the many benefits of therapeutic horseback riding including increased strength, flexibility, coordination and confidence. In addition to a riding lesson in our covered arena, riders enjoy a trail ride through the beautiful Nicasio Valley, creating a unique experience that cannot be duplicated in the arena. Volunteers groom and lead horses, developing valuable horsemanship, interpersonal and leadership skills. There is a comprehensive training program for all new volunteers to learn the unique skills necessary to volunteer. Volunteers and riders gain the opportunity to enjoy the company of peers of all ages in a relaxed outdoor setting. It is often hard to tell who is smiling more, the riders or the volunteers!
