Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Bagful of Books Sale Volunteers help the Hopewell/Prince George Friends of the Library provide a welcoming, organized, and enjoyable shopping experience for community members. Volunteers support the successful operation of the sale while helping raise funds for library programs, services, and resources.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will assist Friends of the Library members and library staff during the Bagful of Books Sale. Responsibilities may include greeting shoppers, answering basic questions about the sale, helping keep books and materials organized, restocking tables, assisting with bagging or checkout, directing patrons through the sale area, and helping maintain a clean and orderly space.
Volunteers may also assist with Friends of the Library membership information and other general tasks as needed.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No previous library, retail, or book sale experience is required. Volunteers will receive instructions and guidance from library staff and Friends of the Library members.
Preferred qualifications and skills include:
Friendly and welcoming attitude when interacting with the public.
Dependability and punctuality.
Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively as part of a team.
Good communication and basic customer service skills.
Willingness to answer basic questions and assist shoppers when needed.
Basic organizational skills for keeping books and sale materials orderly.
