About CASA OF THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS

In the summer of 2020, the Kentucky CASA Network (KCN) assisted in the establishment of an advisory committee who had a passion for helping children affected by abuse, neglect, and dependency in the Eastern Mountain Region of Kentucky. This group committed to assisting in the development of a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program that would serve Perry, Knott, Leslie and Letcher Counties. The advisory committee met with KCN staff monthly and developed the necessary credentials to create legally recognized nonprofit. Perry County District Judge Cody Goehring appointed the first Board of Directors for CASA of the Appalachian Mountains (CAM) on April 14, 2021. In November of 2022, the board voted to merge with CASA of Eastern Kentucky who serves Pike, Floyd and Magoffin counties to form one unified CASA of the Appalachian Mountains which now serves seven counties.
