VITA Greeter/Screener

Position Summary
Greeters/Screeners are the first point of contact for taxpayers visiting a VITA site. They create a friendly, professional, and welcoming environment while helping ensure taxpayers are prepared for their appointments.
Primary Responsibilities
Welcome taxpayers and visitors to the site.
Screen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need.
Verify taxpayers have the required documents, including:
Government-issued photo identification
Social Security cards or ITIN documentation
Forms W-2, 1099, and other tax documents
Distribute and assist taxpayers with completing IRS Form 13614-C (Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet).
Answer basic questions about the VITA program and available services.
Direct taxpayers through the site workflow.
Requirements & Training
No previous tax preparation experience is required.
Must complete IRS certification in:
Standards of Conduct
Intake/Interview & Quality Review
Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and basic computer skills are preferred.
Volunteers are encouraged to commit to a minimum of approximately 40 hours during the tax season.
The official online training platform for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs is available at https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/. This self-paced e-learning portal provides all required tax law instruction, certification tests, and reference materials needed to become an IRS-certified volunteer.
Minimum age: 16.
