Give Back on an All Women Plus Crew in Virginia
♡ SaveAbout this opportunity
Join American Hiking Society for an all women plus. Volunteer Vacation at Hungry Mother State Park in southwest Virginia! Spend a long weekend improving trails, enjoying the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, and connecting with a community of fellow volunteers in a supportive outdoor setting.
Volunteers will continue work on the Raiders Run Reroute, a project American Hiking Society crews have supported for the past three years. The crew will help make trails more sustainable by improving water diversion and maintaining, shaping, and defining hiking and mountain biking features.
No previous trail maintenance experience is required. Experienced hosts will provide instruction, tool demonstrations, and project guidance. This project is rated moderate and includes activities such as bending, shoveling, raking, chopping, and tamping, with plenty of breaks and opportunities to work at your own pace.
Volunteers will camp together at Hungry Mother State Park just a short walk from bathrooms, showers, potable water, and laundry facilities. During free time, explore the park’s 18 miles of trails or enjoy its 108-acre lake, with opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
This project is open to anyone who feels that an all women’s trip that centers and celebrates the experiences of women is the right space for them.
Volunteer Vacations are a chance to learn new skills, meet new people, spend meaningful time outdoors, and make a lasting impact on trails and public lands.
