Give Back at a Texas Wildlife Refuge
♡ SaveAbout this opportunity
Join American Hiking Society for a Volunteer Vacation at Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge in Southeast Texas! Spend a week helping care for primitive trails while exploring a unique landscape of bayous, oxbow lakes, swamps, and forests. Meet fellow volunteers, spend meaningful time outdoors, and make a lasting difference.
Volunteers will help maintain the Knobby Knees Day Use Area trail system and other refuge trails by removing fallen limbs and vegetation, trimming overgrowth, restoring trail markings, and adding new signage where markers have faded or degraded. This work will help keep the refuge’s primitive trails accessible and enjoyable for visitors.
No previous trail maintenance experience is required. Experienced hosts will provide instruction, tool demonstrations, and project guidance throughout the week. This project is rated moderate, with approximately 6 to 8 hours of physical activity on workdays, including plenty of breaks and opportunities to work at your own pace.
Volunteers will stay together at Champion Lake in a modern three-bedroom mobile home with a full kitchen and laundry facilities. Canoes and kayaks will also be available for volunteers to enjoy during their free time.
Volunteer Vacations offer a chance to experience a new place in a meaningful way, learn new skills, connect with fellow volunteers, and make a lasting impact on trails and public lands.
