About this opportunity

During the cold months Volunteer Services works to bring emergency loads of cut, seasoned firewood to low-income seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Mason, Lewis, and Thurston counties who use firewood as their primary source of heat. During Spring and Summer, (and sometimes late Winter!), VS works to procure and harvest firewood for the firewood banks to be ready to deliver to clients in need during late Fall and Winter. If you are interested in helping harvest firewood, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Great opportunity for groups, or individuals looking to burn some calories on a nice day. Will require having proper wood cutting equipment, which may include a chainsaw, safety gear, splitting maul, or hydraulic wood splitter. If you have pickup truck or other vehicle to haul firewood to the wood banks, that is a bonus, but not a requirement. There are many low-income seniors living in small manufactured or mobile homes in rural areas through Mason, Lewis, and Thurston counties and depend on firewood as their only source of heat. Give the gift of heat to those in need and volunteer today!

About Catholic Community Services' Volunteer Services

Our program exists as a safety net for low-income elders and people with disabilities (also low-income)by providing them with services that allow them to remain living as independently as possible in their own homes (not assisted living). For example, a 89 year old woman who only collects $600/mo. in Social Security needs help with her lawn. She can't afford to pay someone, and if her lawn goes a couple of months without being mowed, now the lawn is a fire hazard.
