About this opportunity

The Brain Change Buddy program gives people living with dementia the chance to volunteer in the community — and you make it possible. As a Brain Change Buddy, you'll partner one-on-one with someone with dementia to volunteer together at local businesses and nonprofits like the Naples Botanical Garden, thrift stores, and other community organizations. Your role is to provide gentle support and companionship so your buddy can participate safely and successfully in meaningful volunteer work.
This isn't about doing the work for them — it's about empowering someone to give back, stay engaged, and feel valued. You'll help them follow along with tasks, offer quiet guidance when needed, and celebrate their contributions. The impact goes both ways: your buddy gets to maintain purpose and connection, and you get to witness the joy that comes from helping someone continue to make a difference in their community.
We're looking for volunteers who are patient, encouraging, and flexible. You should be comfortable providing gentle redirection, adapting to your buddy's pace and abilities, and creating a supportive environment where they can shine. No medical background is needed — just a genuine desire to see someone with dementia continue to live with dignity and purpose.
You and your buddy will choose your volunteer day and location together, making this a truly flexible and personalized experience.

Minimum age: 12.
