About this opportunity

As part of Visitor Services, the Oregon State Capitol Store serves Capitol occupants and visitors every weekday from 9am-4pm.Volunteers process orders, stock shelves, get first look at new, specialty merchandise, and learn more about the legislature. Every day, you'll see State Representatives and Senators grabbing lunch, buying gifts for staff, or outfitting their desks with the perfect accessory. You'll help visiting schools buy their souvenirs. You'll chat with visitors from all over the country and world hoping to take home a little piece of Oregon.You'll gain skills like:MerchandisingCash HandlingCustomer ServiceUsing a Point of Sale (POS)Understanding the Legislative ProcessOur Capitol Store Volunteers are our longest-serving, and highest retention rate! It's much more than retail, it's a community and a lot of fun.

About Oregon State Capitol

The Visitor Services Volunteer Program at the Oregon State Capitol has been in existence since 1985. We currently have more than 30 volunteers. Visitor Services Volunteers support public access to their democracy, learning, and creating a welcoming non-partisan atmosphere.Capitol tour guides lead groups from 4th graders to foreign dignitaries, sharing the history of the Capitol and informing guests how they may become involved in the legislative process.The information desk greets, directs, and provides information to visitors.Capitol Store volunteers assist in the retail shop.Volunteers also assist with special events including Oregon's Birthday Celebration, Cherry Blossom Day, Asian and Pacific Islander Day, Multicultural Day, Oregon's Bounty, Holidays at the Capitol, and more.
