Habitat Restoration in Walnut Creek Open Space - Tuesdays

We do habitat restoration at various locations in the WC Open Space. Our home base is Bayberry Pond in Lime Ridge North, but we work at 4-5 other locations in Lime Ridge and Shell Ridge.There is an annual cycle to restoration work. We plant in the winter, weed and water in the spring and summer, propagate new plants and prepare the winter's planting sites in the fall. Generally, restoration uses the same skills as gardening; if it's not familiar, we'll teach you.Minimum age is generally 14; there is no maximum age. You are the best judge of your abilities.Directions and other details for each Tuesday's work are provided via email before each meeting, usually on the day before.We meet every Tuesday morning from 9-noon. There is no requirement to be there every week, but please notify the leader if you are not coming. You can come when the work suits you or it fits your schedule.Plan to wear long pants and sturdy shoes or hiking boots, bring lightweight flexible gardening gloves and water if you want it. There are no bathrooms in the Open Space.
About Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation
Our primary activity is doing habitat restoration in the Walnut Creek Open Space. We have ongoing projects at Bayberry Pond, Rock Oak, Indian Valley Pond, Deer Lake, and Fossil Hill. We do occasional work in other locations in the Open Space.We also have a native plant nursery where we propagate many of the plants we use in our restoration projects.When opportunities arise, we work to acquire additional open space lands.
