ROLE MODELNothing is more powerful than seeing yourself represented. Join Scientific Adventures for Girls for an afternoon at one (or more!) of our TK-6th grade girls' afterschool STEM classes and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers by simply telling your story, and participating in a fun hands on science project with the girls!Time CommitmentDates: At least 1 weekday (Monday - Friday) Oct 27-Nov 21Times: 2.5-3.5 hours between 1:00-5:30pm per school site visitLocations: Elementary Schools in Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley, & EmeryvilleBefore Visit:Connect with our Volunteer Manager (me!) ericard@scientificadventures.org15 min virtual orientationDay of:Meet with two or three 1-hour classes (split by the girl's grade level) per afternoonProvide a brief introduction of your role/career, and optional show-and-tell with any appropriate items from your work (5-10 min)Hold a brief Q&A session with studentsStay and do the preplanned biomimicry project with the girls (40 min)HERE is the interest and sign up form that includes more details about the dates, times, schools, and topics.
About Scientific Adventures for Girls
Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAFG), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, provides after school and summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs to young children with a special focus on girls and disadvantaged youth. SAFG's goals are to increase positive attitudes toward STEM in TK-6th grade female students and to increase hands-on learning opportunities for girls everywhere (including in economically marginalized areas) to explore STEM concepts and encourage lifelong learning of STEM subjects. If you are a female in a STEM field, you can meet with one of our classes, share your story about what you do and how you got interested in your field and do a fun project if you choose.
