Restraining Order Advocate for Those Surviving Domestic Violence

Restraining Order Advocates are a critical source of information, safety planning, and support! Train to assist petitioners with the necessary paperwork to file for a Temporary Restraining Order at the Multnomah County Courthouse, provide information and referrals, make safety plans with survivors, share information about navigating the civil legal system, and provide emotional support.
- Learn about social services resources in the community.
- Develop a deeper understanding of domestic violence - useful across all public services.
- Gain an understanding of how the courthouse and the legal system operates.
- Learn how to work effectively with the legal profession.
- Acquire triage skills - prioritizing needs and crisis support.
- Advance your soft skills such adaptability, critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal communication.
- Extensive training provided.
Qualifications:
- Awareness of issues of domestic violence, homelessness, and diversity a plus.
- Bilingual volunteers desired in ANY language!
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 12:30pm.
- Commitment of 1 year, 4 hours per week.
Home Free: Our services provide survivor centered support designed to prevent people from having to return to abusive homes. Services include a crisis line, emergency housing, intensive case management, restraining order advocacy, support groups, and systems navigation, along with ongoing support.
