Scuola Italiana di Portland provides intergenerational italian language and culture immersion experiences for children, families and adults across Portland, Oregon. La famiglia è tutto is our unique approach to broadening the impact of italian culture and sharing the values, traditions, food and language that is so well loved about the italian community with everyone. We provide a unique experience for both native italian speakers to volunteer in our children's programs leading storytimes, art, cooking, games and other cultural tradition experiences- but also extend the opportunity for non-italians who just want to experience italian culture to share in our family centered commmunity culture. About Scuola Italiana di Portland
Scuola Italiana di Portland was founded in 2006 by a group of Italian speakers eager to give their children a more formal education in Italian language and culture. Since that time, the school has grown to include a Reggio-Emilia inspired immersion preschool, children’s after-school and weekend lessons, a free Mommy and Me playgroup for toddlers, and an adult language and culture immersion program.Each year the school offers two community-wide, traditional Festa di Carnevale costume parties, one for families and children, and another for adult supporters. The school can provide introductions to local Italian community leaders and access to club memberships. Additionally, the school offers quarterly social meet ups for adult students to network and put their new language skills to the test.Strategically looking to the future, Scuola Italiana di Portland endeavors to become a full-fledged, Italian elementary school and cultural community center. The school strives to serve as the mainstay of the Italian community as well as a cultural gateway for the people of greater Portland. The board of directors includes a blend of Italian American and native Italian business professionals who are each committed to the success of Scuola Italiana di Portland.
