Whether it’s providing companionship to a person in the final months and weeks of life, or offering support to their family members and caregivers, the contributions of volunteers are essential to the hospice team.Every hospice relies on volunteer support to provide excellent end-of-life care to each patient and family. By being a hospice volunteer, you can gain great personal satisfaction from knowing that you have made a difference in another person’s life.Some examples of volunteer duties are:Providing companionship to a patient and their familyBeing a comforting and supportive presenceProviding respite time for the patient’s caregiversRunning errands or doing light housekeeping for the patient and familyCommunity outreachOffice supportInterested in becoming a volunteer?Bristol Hospice provides the training and supervision. We ask that surviving family members wishing to join the volunteer staff wait a minimum of one (1) year following the death of their loved one.

Bristol Hospice provides an individualized program of physical, emotional and spiritual care for people in the last phases of their life, with an emphasis on pain control and symptom management. The program embodies the idea of caring which emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible and in familiar surroundings.Hospice care is centered on the patient, family and caregiver. The staff at Bristol Hospice respects and responds to the unique differences in lifestyle, values and wishes of the patient, family and caregiver.The interdisciplinary team, which consists of physicians,nurses,social workers,aides,volunteers and spiritual counselors coordinates the palliative care in the home as well as bereavement support.
