Dance with Neurodivergent Dancers and Individuals with Disabilities

Become a 1:1 Volunteers at Specturm Dance Company, you are vital to our organization because many of our students struggle to learn in a typical classroom environment.
Why: With the varying needs of students in class, it is difficult for the instructor to give individualized attention to every student while also providing classroom management. 1:1 volunteers have the opportunitiy to work closely with an individual and directly help a dancer to imporove motor, social, and executive functioing skills which they will take with them far beyond the dance studio.

Our Mission is to empower our students to move with confidence, connect with community, and redefine what inclusion looks like in the world of entertainment.
What to Expect:
1:1 Volunteers will work with one student throughout class, helping the student navigate classroom schedule, participation in activities, and skill development.
Responsiibilities include but are not limited to redirecting student's attention, attending to their student's sensory needs, adapting instruction to fit learning needs of an individual, and encouraging full participation throughout class.
Volunteers will receive a overview training packet as well as on-the-job training once approved for volunteer work.
What's Required:
We require our volunteers to be 15 years-old or older
Required by law to perform finger-printing background checks on volunteers over the age of 18.
Experience with hip hop or ballet dance and/or previous exprience working with children/individuals with disabilities is a plus, but not required.
