VITAS invites you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of terminally ill veterans. Whether or not you’re a veteran yourself, you can bring comfort, companionship, and support to those who have served our country. What Do Veteran Volunteers Do?Veteran Volunteers receive special training to meet the unique needs of veterans at the end of life. They may:Visit veterans in their homes, nursing facilities, assisted living communities, or VA medical centersProvide transportation or accompany veterans to appointments and eventsAssist with applying for benefits or replacing lost military medalsRecord life stories or reminiscencesMake check-in calls to offer supportHelp plan or participate in Memorial Day and Veterans Day events Free Orientation & Flexible SchedulingAll VITAS volunteers complete a free orientation to learn the skills of hospice volunteering. Veteran Volunteers receive additional training to understand and meet the specific needs of veterans at the end of life.
