Saddle up, folks, 'cause we’ve got a rip-roarin’ night of music headed your way! This concert is bringin’ together the grand tales of the old and the trailblazin’ sounds of the new. We’ll kick things off with the mighty fanfare of Wagner’s Meistersinger, a tune fit for a showdown at high noon. Then, hang onto your hats as Viet Cuong’s Re(new)al, featuring the quartet, Sandbox Percussion, rides in with a bold, high-energy twist that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. But the real wild ride begins with Copland’s Billy the Kid-a sweeping, gunslingin’ musical saga of the American West. So, dust off your boots-this is one showdown you won’t want to miss! The Symphony will need volunteers to help with the following:Taking pictures for Springfield Symphony attendees at our step-and repeat photo opportunitySetting up food and drink at intermission reception for VIP donors and sponsorsAttending marketing tables pre-concertTearing down marketing signageAssisting staff members with additional concert needsAll volunteers should arrive by 5:00pm. Volunteering will last until roughly 10:00pm. About Springfield Symphony
About Us The Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is Southwest Missouri's largest regional, professional orchestra and is one of two of the oldest arts organizations in Springfield. Each Symphony season includes nine subscription monthly concerts - six classical and three pops concerts; two free community concerts - a Halloween concert and a Holiday concert; and Education & Outreach programming. Symphony musicians are auditioned, hold a lifetime seat and are paid professionals.The SSO was founded in 1934 after a group of Springfield High School (no known as Central High School) students approached their music teacher, James Robertson, about forming a civic orchestra. With Robertson as the conductor, the orchestra performed its first concert on February 26, 1935, in Clara Thompson Hall, on the campus of then Drury College. In 1936 a Board of Directors was formed and in 1942 the symphony joined 39 other orchestras from across the country in founding the American Symphony Orchestra League.
