The Hopewell-Prince George Friends of the Library is seeking volunteers to assist with our annual Bagful of Books Sale, a major fundraiser that supports library programs and services. This popular event allows patrons to fill a grocery bag or reusable tote with books for just $2.Volunteer RolesFriday, November 7 – Setup DayHelp set up tables and organize books by genre.Requires lifting and moving boxes of books (heavy lifting involved).Saturday, November 8 – Sale DayGreet patrons and assist with crowd control.Sell Friends of the Library memberships ($10) for one-hour early entry.Restock tables with books throughout the sale.Assist with cleanup after the sale ends at 2:00 PM.Event DetailsSale Hours: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PMFriends of the Library Members: Early entry at 10:00 AM (memberships available at the door for $10).Location: Hopewell Library, HMA RoomWhy Volunteer?This is a great opportunity to support your local library, meet fellow book lovers, and help make a beloved community event a success.
About Appomattox Regional Library System
The Appomattox Regional Library System (ARLS) operates eight library locations, four in Prince George County, three in Dinwiddie County, and one in the City of Hopewell. The name was chosen because the Appomattox River flows through each of the three localities that we serve. Library service began in Hopewell- Prince George area in 1930 when Thomas B. Robertson established a Library Association for persons interested in forming a library. In 1931, the city formally took over operation of the library, with Mrs. Maude Langhorne Nelson as its first librarian. The John Randolph Library, as it was then known, was located in the previous State Planters Bank Building on West Poythress Street. In 1957, the library was moved to the annex of the Municipal Building and the name was changed to honor the first librarian, Maude Langhorne Nelson. In 1974, Prince George and Dinwiddie Counties joined the City of Hopewell to form the Appomattox Regional Library System.
