Brief Organizational Description:
The Hopewell-Prince George Friends of the Library is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to support, improve, and promote the Appomattox Regional Library System. We serve the libraries of Burrowsville, Carson, Disputanta, Hopewell, Prince George, McKenney, and Rohoic.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
The Friends of the Library raises funds through various means to finance the needs of the Appomattox Regional Library System like books, equipment, and programs. Members are appointed by the executive committee. We have different officers and standing committees to serve on.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
The President presides over and conducts meetings; appoints all committee chairs and serves as an advisor to committees; fills by appointment any intra-term officer vacancies to be approved at the next business meeting.
The Vice-President performs the duties of the president in the absence of the president; serves as Chairman of the Program Committee.
The Treasurer keeps and maintains the financial records of the corporation; submits a budget at the April business meeting.
The Secretary records attendance at all meetings; to take minutes of all meetings; keeps a list of the membership, together with their addresses; confirms the members are notified in advance of the time and place of meetings; conducts the correspondence of the corporation.
Standing Committees
Membership: The Membership Committee contacts individuals and corporations to obtain their support for the objectives of the Hopewell/Prince George Friends.
Public Relations: The Public Relations Committee develops community awareness through media, local business, industry, and corporations.
