About this opportunity

Brief Organizational Description:
CARITAS creates a safe space to heal and time to rebuild for those experiencing homelessness or a substance use disorder through our five programs: Emergency Shelter, The Healing Place, Works Program, Recovery Residences, and Furniture Bank.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Help sort food donations in the CARITAS kitchens in order to gauge food usability, organize our storage areas, and ultimately support the nourishment of our participants. As part of our nourish to flourish initiative, CARITAS is working towards providing nourishing meals and food education for all participants, in order to support a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of participants.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Sort donations by usability; quality and freshness, intact packaging, etc.
Sort donations by type: organize donations into appropriate categories such as produce, meat, grain, etc.
As this position involves lifting and moving donations, we ask that you be able to lift and move up to 20 pound boxes comfortably. Please wear comfortable, closed toed shoes (no open toe or flip flops).
Time Commitment:
This opportunity is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11am -1pm.
