2nd Street Festival - Kid Zone 2026

Come volunteer with the Children’s Museum of Richmond at the 2nd Street Festival in Historic Jackson Ward!
CMoR is excited to bring hands-on fun, creativity, and the power of play to this beloved Richmond tradition. Volunteers will help support our Kid Zone by assisting with engaging activities, connecting with children and families, and helping create a welcoming and playful experience for festival guests.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Richmond community, represent CMoR, and help bring the joy of play beyond our museum walls!
What You’ll Do
Depending on your assigned activity or area, volunteers may:
Support hands-on activity stations in the Kid Zone
Help children and families participate in creative activities and crafts
Welcome families and start conversations with festival guests
Explain and demonstrate assigned activities
Encourage children to explore, create, and play
Help keep activity areas organized, stocked, and ready for the next family
Support CMoR staff with keeping activities flowing smoothly
You will be assigned to a specific activity station or area and will work alongside CMoR staff throughout your shift. You do not need to be an expert in the activity — we’ll provide the information and guidance you need to get started!

Friendly, welcoming, and comfortable approaching families
Engaging and willing to start conversations with children and caregivers
Comfortable explaining and demonstrating activities
Ready to jump in and help wherever needed
Excited to represent CMoR and connect with the Richmond community
