The Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) Annual Conference brings together parks, recreation, therapeutic recreation, aquatics, athletics, maintenance, administration, students, and industry partners from across the Commonwealth for four days of educational sessions, professional networking, and civic celebration.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Conference Event Ambassador & Logistics Volunteer. Volunteers play an essential role in welcoming park and recreation professionals to Richmond, supporting registration desks, assisting session moderators, directing attendee flow, and coordinating off-site evening socials and community networking activations.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with attendee check-in, registration packet assembly, and conference badge distribution.
Serve as room monitors for educational sessions, tracking headcounts and assisting presenters with AV/room setups.
Provide general directional guidance and customer support to delegates navigating convention facilities and downtown transit.
Support logistics, vendor check-in, and guest hospitality during evening off-site social events at the 17th Street Market and Midtown Green.
Assist event staff with teardown, attendee voucher distribution, and post-event staging.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Friendly, professional demeanor with a strong customer service orientation.
Ability to stand and walk for 2–4 hour intervals (accommodations available for seated roles such as registration desks).
Reliable, punctual, and comfortable interacting with conference delegates and public venue visitors.
Minimum age: 18 years old.
No formal background check required for general volunteer shifts; all roles work alongside experienced event supervisors.
