The Disaster Health Services Associate provides healthcare and first-aid for clients, and in some cases, staff. Additionally, this role assesses for and responds to public health issues in Red Cross service delivery sites.Responsibilities:Assess and triage the health needs of the shelter population - at the time of registration and on an on-going basis.Evaluate and treat client's illnesses and/or injuries per past history utilizing the ARC HealthServices Protocols as a guideline.Immediately refer critical illness or injury to a higher level of care - i.e. Emergency Medical System (EMS).Document appropriately in accordance with HIPAA guidelines to ensure client confidentiality.Monitor shelter clients and staff for disease outbreaks and report to public health through Health Services Supervisor.Consider if current housing or shelter is appropriate for client's required level of care.Make appropriate community referrals.Refer individuals with mental or emotional health issues to Disaster Mental Health workers.Ensure ongoing sanitary conditions of restrooms, food service, and healthcare areas. Ensure the security of all medical supplies and equipment.Inform the facility manager of any safety hazards or sanitation problems.Arrange for replacement of emergency medication for disaster-related health needs of shelter residents in accordance with ARC regulations & policies.Time Commitment: Flexible. Works with the Disaster Action Team (DAT) participating in an on-call system.
