James River Hospice Richmond Seeks Certified Pet Therapy Dogs & Their Handlers to Visit our Patients

Have you and your dog been Pet Therapy Certified? Would you and your dog like to visit with someone who had to give their dog away because of their increasing health issues? A love for a dog never goes away, no matter how long the dog has been gone. For many people just being in the presence of a friendly, well-behaved, wet-nosed dog brings emotional support, comfort and peace.You and your certified pet therapy dog can bring joy to one of James River Hospice's patients in and around the Richmond area. Our patients may live in the standalone house where they raised their family, or an assisted living facility, with a family member in the family member's home, a nursing home or a memory care unit in a nursing home.To become a James River Hospice Pet Therapy Volunteer, you need to be 18 years or older. You will need to have a two-step TB test, drug screen and a background check. You will need to provide proof that you and your dog have a pet therapy certification and proof that your dog's shot records are up to date and the dog is licensed in the county or city where you live. James River Hospice began serving terminally ill patients in the Richmond Metro area about 20 years ago. Because of the quality of care, compassion and emotional support given to all of our patients by our staff and volunteers, James River Hospice has expanded to care for patients in Farmville, Lynchburg, Fredericksburg and Winchester, VA.James River Hospice - Richmond, VA is looking for several dedicated and caring volunteers to visit with our patients in and around the Richmond area. James River Hospice - Richmond provides services for our patients within a 50-mile radius of Richmond.Hospice is a system of care, not a place. As a James River Hospice Volunteer, you will visit one of our patients in whatever setting the patient calls home - the house where they raised their family, a 55+ community, an assisted living facility or a nursing home. We ask that you bring the sunshine with you every time you visit.
