Board Member - Fundraising or Networking Skills

Brief Organizational Description:
Start 1 Spark believes every student should have access to the extracurricular programs offered at school so they can be a part of their school community. Partnering with disadvantaged middle schools, Start 1 Spark builds a community of individuals, groups, and businesses to provide the resources necessary for every student to participate in the enriching sports, clubs, music, and the arts offered at school.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Start 1 Spark is looking for energetic and passionate community members to join its Board of Directors. Start 1 Spark’s mission is to eliminate the financial burden of school extracurricular activities so all students can participate in their school community. This is an exciting opportunity to support local students in developing strong relationships with their peers and teachers in addition to learning life skills that will support them into adulthood. As a young organization, this is a working Board seeking members with a fundraising background to help grow our donor base or a strong networking background to increase our visibility throughout the community. Start 1 Spark is continuing to expand in the Richmond region and is seeking Board members who can further its mission and launch a thousand sparks!
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide guidance and strategic oversight in furthering Start 1 Spark’s mission
Ensure Start 1 Spark meets its fiduciary obligations
Actively participate in Start 1 Spark’s fundraising plan to increase donor base and retention
Share Start 1 Spark's mission with network and connections to increase awareness throughout the region
