About this opportunity

Join American Hiking Society for a Volunteer Vacation at Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge in Southeast Texas! Spend a week helping care for primitive trails while exploring a unique landscape of lakes, bayous, forests, and wetlands. Meet fellow volunteers, spend meaningful time outdoors, and make a lasting difference.
Volunteers will work alongside refuge staff and fellow participants to help maintain trails by clearing fallen and overgrown vegetation, refreshing trail markings, and replacing signage. This work helps keep the refuge’s trail system accessible and enjoyable for visitors while supporting opportunities to experience this important wildlife habitat.
When the workday is done, volunteers can enjoy the natural surroundings of the refuge and experience an area characterized by bottomland hardwood forests, bayous, oxbow lakes, and wetlands.
American Hiking Society’s Volunteer Vacations bring people together for multi-day service experiences on trails and public lands across the country. You do not need previous trail maintenance experience to participate. Volunteers learn along the way while working together, spending time outdoors, and making a tangible impact on the places they visit.
Come ready to lend a hand, learn something new, and experience Southeast Texas alongside a community of fellow volunteers.
