You can make a difference serving your Kansas City neighbors at Bishop Sullivan Center! Our friendly and efficient pantry staff is waiting to welcome you as a volunteer. We need your help to serve 20-50 families each shift! Your shift would be on Monday from 9 am - 12 pm.Volunteer PurposeThe Bishop Sullivan Food Pantry Assistant will work with the Food Pantry Coordinator to serve the needs of our food pantry clients with dignity during their monthly food distribution.TasksPack items according to pantry directionOrganize non-perishable, protein, produce and bread items in an accessible and efficient wayInspect, sort and organize produce as instructedLoad carts and safely transport items to the client vehiclesObserve all food safety regulations as guided by staffClean and organize food pantryInterface with staff and patrons in a manner consistent with the agency’s missionCompetenciesAble to approach situations with calmVolunteer must be able to push/pull/lift 25+ pounds on a consistent basisEmpathetically listen, while maintaining boundaries consistent with agency guidelinesPassionate about serving pantry clientsAdaptable and flexibleEasily approachableEnjoys organizing to help identify/institute efficienciesAbility to be trained and coached in a fast paced atmosphere

Food: Bishop Sullivan Center operates two food pantries and One City Cafe, a community kitchen that provides nutritious lunch and dinner every weekday.Jobs: Our employment programs seeks to remove barriers that prevent people from finding and keeping employment. We also operate two computer labs and assist with job searches and resume building.Aid: We provide financial assistance to low-income families in the form of utility, rent or other needed assistance.
