Become a GAL with Kids’ Voice!
Position Type: Ongoing
Location: Marion County
Time Commitment: Approximately 25 hours over the duration of the case
Eligibility: No prior experience required. GALs must:
Be at least 21 years old
Pass criminal and Department of Child Services (DCS) background checks
Be open to working with people whose values and beliefs may differ from their own
What is a Guardian ad Litem?
Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteers amplify the voices of children involved in custody cases in Marion County. As a GAL, you represent and protect the child’s best interests.
GALs get to know the child, advocate for their needs, and present recommendations to the judge making important decisions on the child’s behalf. During what may be a scary and complicated time, a GAL provides a steady, trusted presence for the child.
Who can be a GAL?
This position is ideal for dependable, compassionate individuals who are interested in child advocacy and can remain objective when working with families experiencing conflict. No professional experience in child welfare or law is required. Kids’ Voice provides the training, legal guidance, and ongoing support needed to serve successfully.

Legal professionals, educators, social workers, healthcare professionals, and mental health professionals
Parents, caregivers, and experienced mentors
