This fall, the African Community Education Program is excited to begin a mentor program with a focus on building long-term relationships with our students and goal setting. This program is a great opportunity to make a lasting impact on a student in your community and develop a reciprocal relationship in which you learn from each other. The After School program is held on Monday-Thursday from 2:30pm-5:30pm at the All Saints Church (10 Irving St. Worcester), and our Saturday program is held every Saturday from 9am-2:30pm at Claremont Academy. We are looking for tutor/mentors to consistently work with one of our students on their homework, English literacy, as well as short and long-term goal setting. By participating in this mentor program you will receive a certificate of completion, accompanied by an evaluation of your work and a recommendation letter. Completion of the program requires your active presence at the program every Saturday. However, we understand that if you are a student you may not be living in Worcester for the duration of our program so we will do our best to work with you around this possible scheduling conflict.At ACE, we are committed to building stable and consistent relationships for our students who have already overcome so many challenges and continue to need someone that they can look up to and depend on! In order to build these relationships we will work to match your interests, preferences and skills with one of our student's.
About African Community Education Program
The African Community Education (ACE) Program is a non-profit community organization that was established to address the educational needs of African refugee and immigrant students now living and attending school in Worcester, Massachusetts.The students attending this program have come to the U.S. from nations suffering from war and political or social instability. As a result, these children were unable to engage in meaningful schooling during their childhood. When they arrive in the U.S., they are enrolled in school according to their age, rather than their actual level of education; thus, they are often years behind their peers in most subjects.Our students come from many nations - but they have all come to learn, achieve, and succeed. At ACE, our goal is to help them achieve THEIR goals, by providing a safe and supportive environment for learning.
