Autumn Hospice is seeking compassionate, reliable individuals to provide emotional support and meaningful companionship to patients and their families during one of life's most important journeys. As a Companionship Volunteer, you will offer comfort, dignity, and human connection through your presence and kindness.
Whether listening to stories, sharing conversation, reading aloud, or simply sitting quietly with a patient, your time can ease feelings of loneliness and isolation. Volunteers also provide valuable respite for caregivers, allowing them time to rest, attend appointments, or focus on their own well-being. Your presence can make a profound difference in the lives of those we serve.
Volunteer Activities
- Spend one-on-one time with patients through conversation, reading, games, reminiscing, or simply providing a calm and supportive presence.
- Provide respite visits for caregivers by staying with the patient while the caregiver takes a break, runs errands, or attends personal appointments.
- Engage patients in meaningful activities such as listening to music, looking through photographs, light arts and crafts, or taking short walks when appropriate.
- Participate in volunteer training and ongoing educational opportunities provided by Autumn Hospice.
- Serve as a valued member of the hospice care team, helping to enhance quality of life for patients and families.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to patients and their loved ones.
- Practice active, empathetic, and nonjudgmental listening.
- Maintain regular communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and complete required visit documentation.
- Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with hospice policies and regulations.
