Special Olympics Volunteers and Unified Partners support athletes with intellectual disabilities by fostering inclusion, independence, teamwork, and confidence through sports and community engagement. In partnership with LIFE – Living Independently Forever, Inc., volunteers help advance a shared mission to building a more inclusive world where adults with disabilities are empowered to live an independent, healthy, and joyful life in a supportive community.
Unified Partners are volunteers without intellectual disabilities who participate alongside athletes as teammates, peers, and role models-demonstrating that inclusion strengthens communities and supports lifelong independence.

- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Role modeling professionalism.
- Develop positive relationships with LIFE residents, families, and staff.
- Complete required training as assigned.
- Other duties as determined by Volunteer Activity Supervisor.
General Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Assist with Special Olympics sporting events, practices, and competitions.
- Support athletes before, during, and after events.
- Encourage athlete confidence, independence, and personal growth.
- Help with event setup, registration, logistics, and breakdown.
- Serve as timekeepers, scorekeepers, or event assistants (training provided).
- Assist with awards ceremonies and athlete recognition.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
