Powisset Farm is looking for volunteers to assist the Youth Programs manager with youth engagement programs, including private birthday parties, StoryHours, and educational visits. The Powisset Farm Barnyard is home to pigs, lambs, chickens, and goats. This opportunity is great for adults interested in working with children and livestock.
Prior experience working with children and/or animals is not required. Training will be provided to learn proper procedures for volunteering with children and barn animals. After you express interest in this role, we will be in touch about training and the schedule of events
Time Commitment:
Our Barnyard StoryHours will run every Friday morning from 10AM-11AM beginning September 18th through October 30th. Birthday parties are private events that are typically booked for one month in advance. Barnyard Birthday parties typically take place on Saturday and Sunday morning for two hours between 9AM-1PM.
Reports to: Youth Programs Manager
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
Lead small groups of children to each barnyard area
Share fun facts about the animals
Read children’s books
Explain the safety procedures of the barnyard to guests
Alert the Youth Programs Manager if any animal or animal pen needs attention
Assist with a nature related craft (as needed)
Qualifications:
Have excellent communication skills
Friendly and outgoing personality
Have reliable transportation to the Farm
Enjoy working with children
Ability to work independently with staff near by
Comfortable to ask questions
Ability to commit to at least 3 barnyard StoryHours
Have interest in assisting with birthday parties
Interest in working in a barn environ
