Garden Watering - Powisset Farm

Opportunity Overview:
Revived as the site of a Community Supported Agriculture program, Powisset Farm in Dover, Massachusetts, features a trail that explores woodlands, fields, and wetlands. Currently, the farm could use volunteers to assist in watering our flower planters and entry gardens, and possibly our pollinator and herb gardens during dry conditions. If your passion is gardening, and you have a few hours a week to spare, we would enjoy sharing this amazing property with you!
This position would be perfect for individuals with a flexible schedule, a love of the outdoors, and basic gardening knowledge. Our stewardship and farm staff will work with the volunteer to determine gardening needs and priorities. The ideal candidate should be equally at home working independently and on a team.
This role is active April-September. During the non-active months, volunteers who express interest will be introduced to the Powisset Facilities Manager for more information about starting in the spring.
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
Working with staff to assess gardening needs
Work independently to water plant life on a consistent weekly schedule, dependent on weather conditions
Maintain communication with staff
Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols
Must self-report volunteer hours weekly
Qualifications
Have reliable transportation to the property
Ability to use handheld irrigation tools such as hoses and watering wands with training by staff, able to learn the irrigation needs of various plant life
Ability to follow instructions and communicate with staff
Dress in appropriate clothes and footwear that can get wet
Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces, including grass or uneven surfaces
