About this opportunity

Planetarium OperatorShare your passion for all things astronomical by volunteering in the Davis Planetarium. Present astronomy programs in our Digital Planetarium, operate and monitor computer and projection equipment, and manage crowds and physical space.Duties:Usher guests into the PlanetariumIntroduce and present live planetarium shows to audiencesEngage guests in a variety of astronomical based topicsOperate Digital PlanetariumRequired Knowledge/Skills:Public speaking, knowledge/interest in astronomy and night sky, comfortable learning digital planetarium software and technology, and a keen eye for detail are all necessary skills.Comfort & familiarity operating a computerAbility to speak to and deal with public in courteous and friendly mannerOutgoing; at ease with people of all agesPrior knowledge of astronomy helpful, but willingness to learn is acceptable substitute Physical Requirements:Comfortable working in low lightingAbility to present a 30-minute live presentation while operating the digital planetarium software Training: Will be provided by Planetarium staff. Schedule: Shifts are available on Fridays (12-3:30pm), Saturdays (12-4:30pm), or Sundays (12-4:30pm). Volunteers must be able to commit to one shift per week.
